Teameup

Mobile app

Description

Teameup is a mobile application with a mission to connect athletes based on their availability and sports interests. The challenge was to create an intuitive and engaging platform that allows users to easily build local sports teams, find friends, and locate training partners.

Target Audience

The application is designed for athletes aged between 20 and 35 who are eager to connect with like-minded individuals within their community.

Research Phase

Given the constraints, the research phase was minimal but focused. Instead of extensive user interviews or surveys, we relied on market research and competitive analysis to understand the needs and pain points of our target audience.

Insights Gained

Through this research, it became clear that our target audience values:

  • Ease of use
  • Quick access to relevant information
  • A visually appealing yet straightforward interface

UI Elements and Functionality

Colour and Typography

The blue and yellow colour palette was chosen to evoke feelings of energy, enthusiasm, and community. The typography was selected to ensure readability and to complement the flat design style.

Core Features

Suggested Teameup Feed

This is the heart of the app. It suggests potential teammates to users based on their skill level, location, and chosen sports. Users can swipe right to connect or left to look for other options.

Chat and Communication

Once a connection is made, users can chat to discuss further details. This feature was designed to be as straightforward as possible, minimizing cognitive load.

Profile Viewing

Each user has a profile that displays their skill level, preferred sports, and availability. This allows for a more informed decision when choosing teammates.

User Feedback and Iterations

Due to constraints, extensive user testing wasn't feasible. However, initial feedback from a small group of users was gathered and used to make minor adjustments to the design.

Challenges, Learnings, and Success Metrics

Challenges Faced

One of the main challenges was balancing a clean, minimal design with the need for robust functionality.

What Was Learned

The importance of iterative design became clear. Even without extensive user research, iterating based on what feedback was available proved invaluable.

Metrics of Success

While it's early days, initial engagement metrics and user reviews have been positive, indicating that the app successfully addresses its users' needs.
